The new work by Ene-Liis Semper is a musical performance, seeking to bring together powerful visual contrasts and Vambola Krigul's live percussion music.
The performance was initially inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's seventh book, the 1973 Breakfast of Champions, which is also his best-known novel, often referred to as a cult classic. Vonnegut has been characterised as a humanist, a pacifist, a nicotine addict and satirist.
Semper's works almost always contain dualities. They can make you laugh or cry, haunt you, or feel like parodies. Even though there are no perfect ways to look at her work, none can be conclusively excluded.
"It has become clear to me that theatre is not born on stage but within the audience. What happens on stage only provides an impulse to give the audience a "code" that they receive based on their experience, presence and empathy. For years, I have found fine-tuning that impulse and the energetic and visual concentration fascinating.
