Lauri Lagle’s new play Leviathan is about people dawdling in the shadows of life, who similarly to holiday-makers in a cherry orchard do not seem to notice that the world is collapsing around them. It is only after the first axe strikes the blow that they look up and start chasing after something that has come to disturb their peace. A frenzied journey towards the desired follows, bereft of boundaries, sacrifice and joy. Oscillating in the void of existence, a desire to throw a harpoon and to hook oneself to something bigger and more meaningful is born – only to then destroy it again.
The play is inspired by several texts from the world literary classics, and live music is performed on stage.
